An online survey by Creative Fabrica shows the worst possible place to be a woman in Sydney.
The survey revealed the ‘most preferred’ place for women to be is at home, with 75 per cent saying they would prefer a ‘living room’ to a ‘bedroom’.
The report revealed that the majority of women said they wanted a ‘household’ where there was ‘no distractions’, and were ‘not intimidated’ by strangers or ‘somewhere where they are safe’.
In terms of a ‘bespoke place’, women said it would be ‘in the centre of the city’, while men said it was ‘in an urban centre’.
Curiouser and curiouser as to why there are so few ‘real’ spaces for women, the survey also revealed that a majority of respondents wanted ‘a place where you feel comfortable and safe’.
It is clear that Sydney’s lack of women-friendly spaces is a problem that affects many of us all.
While some women might have taken it upon themselves to create a ‘safe space’ for themselves, the problem is that ‘safe spaces’ can often be unsafe.
As we look for ways to address the issue of unsafe spaces, there are also some great resources to help.
Here are some of our favourite resources for women’s safety and wellbeing.
